Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I'll be going documenting how I go to where I am and where I am headed!!

Staffing!

Staffing!

Hey everyone!  You’ll remember from my last post that things were falling together perfectly for my second location to open up.  The bank said I could have the money, a building that wasn’t for rent came up for rent and now it was time to figure out the staffing situation.  I had a great crew in Montrose and we were doing well.  Awesome front guy, and two great mechanics and then me, doing some work and talking a lot.  I figured that I needed to replicate part of that in Grand Junction so I talked to my guys and we decided that my awesome frontman and one of my mechanics would move to Grand Junction and I would hire another guy to take my place up there.  Foolproof right??

I placed an ad, looking for a manager and got a great applicant right away.  He was working for another shop in the area and was psyched to come work for us.  He had been following us on social media for a while and knew what we were all about.  After a couple of interviews, I hired him and we were set.  I had the building, the money, and the staff.   I was working on the playbook for the day to day stuff and all was looking great.  I really didn’t see anything that could go wrong.  I was going to pay them all a little more than they were making in Montrose but because I wasn’t going to be drawing a salary from up there I figured there would be plenty of money.

Everyone would be getting an hourly wage and with the bundling of insurance and stuff like that, the whole thing should be a slam dunk once we get the word out that we were up there.  We already had plenty of customers from the area so that shouldn’t take long and from what we had heard, not a lot of people were all that happy with the service up there.  I honestly didn’t see anything that was going to stop this thing.  I knew it was going to take a lot of work but I didn’t think it could fail…

Well, we all know the end of this story but I think you might enjoy the ride.  I learned a TON about business and life on this journey and I hope that you will too.  Thanks again for reading along!

What are you grateful for today??  I am grateful for this blog, Highland Cycles and God loving me even though I am a total screw up!
