Another awesome dentist visit
Quick aside today! Sorry for the late post but I had a late night at the shop and then a super duper early dentist appointment this morning. I have never been the best at taking care of my teeth and it is starting to catch up to me finally. I had to have my teeth and gums "deep" cleaned. That basically means that they numb half of your face and then pull out heavy construction equipment to remove the "neglect" from my teeth and gums. Its a really fun process. If you read my earlier post about my dentist appointment you'll know that I actually really like the folks at the office and we have a funny relationship. Well, this visit was not a disappointment.
I arrived at the appointment right on time and checked in. I was stoked to hear that they had the same Pandora station as last time playing. It was non stop 80's and 90's! My hygienist took me in and we began to talk about all sorts of things unrelated to my mouth. It started with Christmas and how commercial it has become. We both hate that! After lamenting the demise of a Christian Christmas we moved to bullying and school violence. Both of us feel strongly that kids should just fight back when they are getting attacked. I think that people have become so darn sensitive and worried about getting. Everybody tells their kids to just avoid that kid or walk away. Well, guess what, that doesn't always work. Some kids just need to get hit! There, I said it! My son Thomas was being treated like crap once and he hit the kid and knocked him down. He got in trouble at school and came home and told me. I asked him what happened, he told me and I told him that I was proud of him. The look in his eyes was awesome! I said that he would have to deal with the consequences at school but that at home he wasn't in trouble. I honestly believe that if kids were a little tougher and occasionally fought off bullies there would be a lot less of this horrible school shooting crap. If you take care of an issue right when it happens then it doesn't have a chance to stew and grow in your gut. When an issue has time to fester it becomes much bigger than it really is and then people make really bad decisions. I am not in any way advocating picking fights but if someone treats one of my boys like crap over and over I am going to tell them to punch that kid and end it! I know that isn't the most popular thing to say but guess what? I don't care!
After that talk, we moved to the issue of entitlement. I won't go off on that now (I will probably do an entire post about my feelings on that later) but the gist of it was that kids need to work for what they get so they don't end up helpless and worthless when they get older.
I know that didn't have anything to do with the Baja 1000 or my journey to entrepreneurship but I didn't have time this morning and I thought this was a good substitute. Don't know if you agree with me or not, but I hope that what I said moved you in some way. Give this thing a like, share or comment below if you feel inclined and stay tuned for more of my trip!
